On October 11, JK Rowling, author of the ever popular Harry Potter books, did a web chat with Snitch Seeker that got Harry Potter fans on the internet rather riled up.

Rowling started with the typical questions about the location of the interview; how Harry Potter changed peoples lives, and how she began her writing career. These were all standard questions for this seasoned celebrity.

“I guess with something like Harry Potter, you get used to all the reactions in the world,” said freshmen Mahalia Booth-Hodges.

After a few questions, the topic of conversation moved to Pottermore, the Harry Potter website that keeps fans engaged now that the series is over by providing more background information, described by Rowling as a sort of virtual pop up book. This website has been a large topic of conversation to some of Harry Potter’s most devoted fans, so people were reasonably interested.

When asked if any of the characters came back and surprised her, she replied that she knew the characters too well for them to surprise her. However, she said that in writing the Pottermore biography of Remus Lupin, Harry’s professor in his third year, she became very upset and emotional, but would not disclose reasons. At this, those on popular blogging sites such as Tumblr began quoting her and wondering what it could possibly refer to, ever interested in the fates of their favorite characters.

“I can understand why she would be upset, it must be hard to revisit a character that has such a sad story,” Said Booth-Hodges.

Rowling was later asked what she would say to those who were disappointed that they were sorted into Hufflepuff house. Rowling replied that this was a very sore point for her, and said that, while she herself was sorted into Gryffindor on the website when she tried it herself, she considered Hufflepuff to be her favorite. Many fans of Harry Potter were very excited by this. Fans of the series tend to sort themselves into the four houses of the books based on their personalities, and Hufflepuff seemed to be the least popular of the four. To those who considered themselves already to belong to this house, and to those who were unwillingly sorted into the unpopular house, Rowling’s words were deeply encouraging.

Rowling finished off the hour long interview with a few quirky questions thrown in for fun. Though the Harry Potter book series may be over, people can be certain that Harry Potter fans remain in a state of constant vigilance, ever looking out for more information about the series that touched the hearts and minds of millions.
