Echosmith literally is a band of siblings. They stand together and sing together. Sydney (lead vocals) and her three brothers, Jamie (guitar), Noah (bass) and Graham (drums), got their start at a benefit concert.
“It sort of just happened, it wasn’t anyone’s plan to start this,” Echosmith said.
Eventually, they decided to call themselves Echosmith, after being inspired by blacksmiths, the makers of metal.
“We thought of Echosmith, which is makers of echos and sounds. It just clicked with all of us,” Echosmith said.
Near the end of 2011 Echosmith got their “big break” when they got in contact with Mike Elizondo, vice president of artists and repertoire for Warner Bros heard their music. Elizondo, who has worked with Eminem, Switch foot and Regina Spector, is producing their debut album.
“Immediately, he really responded to it and brought it to Rob Cavallo, the CEO of Warner Bros. Within a week we were offered a record deal. We had played together for four years up to this point. It felt like forever, but then went really fast,” Echosmith said.
Recently, they were thrust into the spotlight by opening for well-known bands, like Owl City, Twenty One Pilots, and Neon Trees, and scoring a place in Warped Tour 2013.
“Warped tour is huge; it’s iconic at this point. There are so many bands and artists that got their start on the Vans Warped Tour. We’re honored to be playing it,” Echosmith said.
Inspiration for Echosmith comes from the music they grew up hearing. Bands like The Smiths, Fleetwood Mac, U2 and Coldplay inspire them.
“Growing up in a musical household there was always artists, session musicians and songwriters around every day, so that really inspired us too,” Echosmith said.
The infectious nature of their music allows their audience to grow with every venue they play. For them, the best experience they have is recording and playing live.
Echosmith said, “To see our songs come alive and to see how people react to them is incredible.”
Echosmith’s upbeat, fast-paced music is sure to have you up and dancing around your room. They are finishing up their debut record and playing lots of venues, hoping to meet new people from around the world. Check them out at www.echosmith.com!
