This time in the year many students are talking about what to do with their summer time. Not the students at Urbana High School. Around the halls the news is buzzing about changes in rules for the upcoming school year.

Little do most people know that these “changes” are just rumors.

UHS Assistant Principal, Travis Courson, says, “As of right now there are no changes being made to the rules this year.”

One rule in particular seems to cause a lot of problems for students. As of right now there is to be no use of electronics by any students throughout the school day, although many don’t actually listen to it.

Right now the UHS Saturday school seems to be filled with a lot of students that have been caught on their cellphones during class. Would this go down if the rules were different?

Courson says, “There have been a lot of talks about what to do about cellphone use in school, but there is no quick fix to it.”

One of the arguments is allowing student to use their electronics during passing periods, at lunch, or when teachers allow it.

This could help students get out the ”itch” to text, Tweet, or whatever they may feel the need to use their electronics for four minutes between classes.
Allowing some lenience with the use of these objects could very well bring the problems to a stop. Give a little to get a little. What do you think?
