Omaha Killings Spark Questions

Citizens of an Omaha, Nebraska community were shocked Tuesday when Roger and Mary Brumback, pathology professors at Creighton University Medical School, were found dead in their home.

According to police, a piano mover who arrived at the Brumback’s house on Tuesday discovered an ammunition clip wedged in the doorway and Mary Brumback’s body just inside the door.

The couple, both 65, had announced plans to move to West Virginia after Roger’s retirement, which was intended to be next month.

Friends of the family were shocked by the callousness of the homicide.

“Why would anyone want to harm them? They did so much for the community here and the community in Oklahoma City, and they were still contributing. They still had a lot to give back,” said Laura Neece-Baltaro in an interview with KETV. She met the Brumbacks when all of them lived in Oklahoma in the 1990s.

A prayer service at was held at Creighton University on Thursday for the couple.

  1. This is really sad. It’s bit strange too. Why wedge the ammunitions clip in the door? Also, why them, were they also robbed?

  2. In response to Grace’s comment –
There is some speculation about a relationship between this killing and one a couple of years ago. Apparently both murders where linked to the pathology department at Creighton.
It does seem a bit strange that the killer would draw attention to themselves by wedging the door open.
