Minutes before its planned start time, Superintendent Donald D. Owen tweeted out, “Due to the continuing rain, the UHS Homecoming Parade has been cancelled.”

Meant to run after the pep assembly, the homecoming parade was cancelled due to issues with rain and thunder.

There was no marching band, choir, sports club, or the King and Queen in a convertible. Similarly unrecognized were the class floats, a yearly tradition at UHS.

Many students were upset due to the fact that their floats were unable to be showcased at the parade on Friday.

On Snapchat, one student posted a picture of the floats in the dumpster, with the caption: “Throwing away our hard work.”

Despite the parade being cancelled and the disappointment of students and the community,  there was still a tremendous amount of school spirit at the pep rally. Different clubs and sports teams showed their Tiger Pride, and the Eclectic Dance Team even got Matthew Stark, principal, to join in on the fun.

Many people turned out to the game that night decked out in their Tiger Pride apparel. The dance nearly sold out, and the energy all weekend was exactly how it was supposed to be.
Homecoming week was a tremendous success even with the cancelled parade.
