Renegades was originally meant to be the first book in what was previously called The Gatlon Trilogy, but is now being released as a stand-alone.
According to Meyer’s official website, the two main characters are Nova and Adrian. Adrian is a Renegade—a human with extraordinary abilities who brought peace to a crumbled society. Nova hates the Renegades and is seeking vengeance, but Adrian begins to change the way she views his kind.
Because of her busy schedule, Meyer is not currently doing any interviews or answering questions about Renegades. However, fans are still able to show her all of the love and support that she has inspired to grow inside of them.
“I’m already obsessed with it and it hasn’t even come out yet!” commented Ellie, a fan on Meyer’s website about Renegades. Meyer is frequently in touch with her fans and always responds to their emails, but for those just looking to express their excitement, there is a comment section on the book’s page.
Marissa Meyer is best known for her debut novel, Cinder, which was released in early 2013. Cinder expanded into The Lunar Chronicles, a series of futuristic fairy-tale retellings complete with Scarlet, Cress, Winter, Fairest, and Stars Above.
In an email from 2014, Meyer explained that Cinder came to her in a dream in which, as Cinderella was running away from the ball, she tripped and her foot fell off. “When I awoke, I immediately knew that she was a cyborg with a malfunctioning robotic foot,” she said. “It just felt right!”
With Renegades, Meyer continues her theme of young adult science-fiction, and there is no doubt that her new novel will be just as endearing and addictive as her previous publications.
Though she has only been writing for a few years, Meyer’s admirable skill and love for her fans shows that she holds a very promising future, and Renegades just may be her best story yet.
