Danville High School Postpones Events In Wake Of Shooting

After last Friday’s shooting that injured three people moments after Central’s 76-66 win over Danville, the Viking first loss of the season, DHS has taken action and postponed three basketball games: a scheduled girls matchup with Central that was scheduled for Tuesday, and scheduled boys and girls basketball games with Urbana scheduled for this weekend for precautionary purposes.

The investigation into the shooting is still ongoing, and as such, Danville High School has decided to postpone every basketball game they were scheduled to play this week.

In a press release sent out on Tuesday, Alicia Geddis, Danville schools superintendent, offered this:

“Out of an abundance of caution, we have jointly decided to cancel Tuesday’s Champaign Central-Danville girls basketball as well as Friday night’s Urbana-Danville boys game and Saturday’s Danville-Urbana girls game. Law enforcement is continuing to investigate the violence that occurred last weekend. The safety of our students, staff and fans is our top priority.”

Steve Waller, UHS Athletic Director, declined to comment on the ongoing situation.

As of now, a decision has yet to be reached regarding the status of future events involving DHS. Urbana’s January 12th boys basketball matchup with Central has been moved up by one hour, and is now scheduled to begin at 6:30 in attempt to help prevent another violent situation.
