Dance is a sport and form of art that generally refers to movement of the body. Usually rhythmic and to music used as a form of expression, social interaction or presented in a spiritual or performance setting. It can also embody or express ideas and emotions or to tell a story. “I love to dance because it helps me release stress and anger that I am feeling during the day” said Taylor King, freshman.

Nine thousand years ago dance was started in India and Egypt and used in healing rituals. Early Greeks made the art of dancing into a system expressive of all the different passions. Dance has evolved into different types such as: Tap, Jive, Acro, Jig, Ballroom, Waltz, Tango, Disco, Salsa, Foxtrot, Swing, Mambo, Electronica, Belly, Polka,Twist, Hip-Hop, Ballet and Jazz. “I’ve been taken ballroom dance lessons since I was a little girl” said Cerena Jones, junior.

Dancing is also featured in movies: Set Up, Shall We Dance, Dance With Me, Save The Last Dance, Flashdance and Dirty Dancing. Dances can be done by many people in different years and dancing will still be performed. “My favorite dance movie is Save The Last Dance because not only does it have dancing in it but it talks about interracial schools,” said Reniesha Gray, senior.

In addition to movies, dancing has also taken over the small screen. Dancing has been made in to television shows shown around the world. For example, Dancing With The Stars, So You Think You Can Dance and America’s Best Dance Crew. Dancing is a legacy that will be carried for years to come and will be used by different people everywhere.

Some great dancers of all time are Michael Jackson, Martha Graham, Sammie Davis Jr., Veronika Part and Mikhail Baryshnikov. These dancers know dancing is healthy for you, as well. It reduces cardiovascular disease and weight gain. But there are a few risks, too. Body image problems, eating disorders and repetitive strain injury are all risks when dancing.

Dancing is something everybody will enjoy doing. So go to a party or a wedding and DANCE DANCE DANCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Echo conducted a survey for the seniors to see what they had to say about the seminars. Here are the results:

Thirty percent of seniors said they were confused about what the seminars were for. Fifteen percent didn’t go to them because they were not required or they had other things to do. Some had doctor’s appointments during them and couldn’t make it. Five percent of the students said it was boring and they shouldn’t have gone. Fifty percent of the students thought that they were really helpful and the seminars helped with their life plans after high school.

There were many seminars that you could have gone to including: Certified Nurse’s Assistant, Finding An Apartment, Needing A Job, Construction Work and Parkland College Review. Out of all of the seminars you only got to pick three choices and out of those three you got two seminars to go to instead of going to seventh and eighth hour.

While there, they gave you information on how to achieve your goals in life. You also watched a video and got information packets also on how you can go further in life.

“The seminars that I attended were easy to relate to and it helped me get an understanding in life,” said Senior Reco Gray. The overall day was very educational and exciting. This is definitely something they should have for the seniors every year.

When you hear the words off-campus lunch, you automatically smile and think fast food. Off-campus isn’t what it’s made out to be. You leave for lunch and you have to be back in 50 minutes. Sometimes 50 minutes isn’t enough to get food if you go to a restaurant. There are a lot of people waiting in line for their food, too. Plus you have to get there and make it back on time for class. Some people go home for lunch and they don’t come back to school. Many people stay in the cafeteria and eat lunch. Personally, I go to Lincoln Square because their cheese fries are flame. People go different places for food some may go to get food at McDonald’s, Dairy Queen, Lil Porgy’s, Subway, Monical’s and Papa Dell’s. Others may get food at Taco Bell, Wendy’s, Arby’s, or even KFC. Wherever you go, you can always count on spending money and getting lunch to fill you up. So the question is, is off-campus worth having? Yes, it is worth having!

During the fall season, many television shows premiere for the first time or they return for another season. Out of all the shows that came on, one suspenseful show caught my eye: The Desperate Housewives of Wisteria Lane.

It stars Eva Longoria-Parker, Terri Hatcher, Felicity Huffman, Marcia Cross, and Nicollette Sheridan as five married best friends who will protect their families and privacy at any cost. When I say anything, I mean anything from lying and wrecking cars, to saving lives and destroying them.

The best friends lean on each other for advice with their kids, husbands and jobs. Gabriella (Eva Longoria-Parker) has two kids and is married to a man named Carlos who was blind but now can see. His niece Samantha moves in with them, but doesn’t click too well with Gabby. Susan (Terri Hatcher) has two kids who just got remarried to her ex-husband Mike after stealing him from his fiancé. Lynette (Felicia Huffman) just found out she was pregnant again with twins and she already has four other kids. Bree (Marcia Cross) has two kids and is filing for divorce from her husband who is trying to blackmail her for money. Then there’s Edie (Nicolette Sheridan) who has one child and doesn’t know she married a man who is an ex-con artist and is out for revenge against one of the families. As Edie races against time to protect her friends, she never takes the time to think maybe she was in danger, too.

To watch this drama-filled show, turn your TV to channel 8 (ABC) every Sunday at 9/8c.

Edges is not a traditional musical. It’s an exciting new short story about four burgeoning adults asking these coming of age questions: Who am I? Who do I want to become? It examines the search for love, commitment and meaning. Being one of the first student directed shows, it has a cast of seven people. It’s directed by two of our very own students, Kendall Johnson and Maura Kinney. Don’t miss this three day production. Performance nights are Thursday, September 17, Friday, September 18, and Saturday, September 19 at 7 p.m. Tickets can be bought at the door. The cost is $4 for kids and $6 for students and adults. This is a classic play that was made years ago, and is still being watched in different places. It will make you laugh and cry, depending on how emotional you are. So make sure to bring your tissues.

Have you ever loved somebody who loved you back, but has a weird way of showing it? Have you ever had a relationship where everything you were told was a lie? That’s what happened to Mo when she put her heart on the line and had it broken without even a “Sorry”. She leaves her boyfriend Quan to go find someone who will love her for who she is on the inside. After meeting a guy named Boss, she starts to feel that true love does come around. Everything that glitters isn’t always gold. Determined to get her back, Quan will puts everything on the line, just to have things back the way they were before Mo left him. Torn between the love for her ex-boyfriend and her feelings for her new boyfriend, she has to decide whether to follow her heart or not. Will she leave Boss for Quan and live through the heartbreak all over again? Or will she stay with Boss and move on from Quan for good?
This book is a helpful to having a healthy relationship or if you are in love with someone but you can’t let them go and move on with your life. This book has really helped me through a lot of tough relationships and hard times. That’s why I give this book a rating of 5. It is also helpful to people who have lost someone they loved, or if the person they loved lost them. If you love somebody and you don”t know how to show them or tell them, this is the perfect book for you to express your feelings towards your loved one.

This book is about a woman named Dominique who copies everything her twin sister Monique does. She will do anything to be like her and hurt anyone who stands in her way. The latest thing her sister has to offer that she wants, is her man Rafael. Even though she has a man of her own who is more danger than she is. Dominique will do all it takes to get what she wants in life including steal, lie, cheat, and harm those who are in her way of getting her new “man”. But her boyfriend Yuri isn’t letting her go that easily. Now she has to figure out how to leave her old life behind for a new one and get her sister and ex-boyfriend out of the picture.

This is a book you read if you like to be some one other than yourself. It will help you cover your tracks of pretending to be another human-being. I would rate this book at a 5 because this book is very satisfying, uplifting, and funny. Also it is drama filled and it will keep you interested until the end and wondering what will happen when all breaks loose.
