Junior Marshals is a graduation tradition in many different schools all around the U.S.

So, what do they do?

Junior Marshals help graduation run smoothly, directing the graduating students on when to stand and where to go to walk the stage.

“Honestly, I didn’t really know what they were, but then I talked to someone who did it last year and they said it was a cool experience to see the behind the scenes of graduation before it’s time for you to graduate,” said marshal Rah’Kiyah Boatright-Williams.

Junior marshals are a tradition at UHS, but have also become one within families.

“When I watched my sister walk the stage and I saw the Junior Marshals in all white, I thought it would be a cool experience to do my junior year,” said junior CJ Blanden, who will be taking the role as junior marshal at graduation this Thursday.

Since there are limited spots, interested students have to apply for this position since there are limited spots. Those with high GPAs and academic achievements are picked first as a strong representation of the junior class.

“My friends and I all thought ‘Why not?’ so we all signed up for it and got in!” said junior Adey Cadle.

If you are becoming a Junior next year, you should think about applying to be a Junior Marshal at graduation! Stand out in the crowd with your own cap and gown, all in white!
