A tornado touched down near Oklahoma City today, leaving causing terrible damage. The tornado was 2 miles wide, and is said to have killed at 51 people, and damaged houses, businesses, and even schools.

The tornado left a lot of debris, too. It was on the ground for about 40 minutes, with a tornado warning going into effect 16 minutes prior. There were said to be many children in a couple of elementary schools that were hit. One of the schools, Plaza Towers Elementary, is almost completely gone.

There are children feared to be trapped under the debris, still.

Sophomore Raine Craig said, “It is very devastating to see all of those innocent people dying, and I hope that kind of tragedy does not happen anywhere else.”

Of course, these natural disasters cannot be fully prevented, but in most cases they can be prepared for. Make sure your family has a plan so you know how to stay safe during these horrible disasters.
