In the spotlight: Met Gala prom

This Saturday, UHS juniors and seniors will be dancing the night away at the highly anticipated… Prom! Red carpets, Paparazzi, and all-around Hollywood, the theme for this year’s prom will be the Met Gala, chosen by the student council.

Junior Kierra Moten and sophomore Franklina Kabu are two members of the group who both had large roles in planning the dance.

“The vibe is Met Gala. So we’re aiming for the night at the Met Gala, but high school-themed. Therefore, no matter what you wear, you’re gonna be recognized because it’s the Met Gala,” said Moten.

Kabu agrees, saying that being in the spotlight is what this night will be about.

“It’s a good vibe. You’re the spotlight; everybody in their own spotlight,” said Kabu.

When planning this night, a lot of preparation was needed, taking the group 7 months to plan.

“We’ve been planning since the summer,” said Moten. “I think the theme took the longest amount of time just figuring out what we could all agree on,” added Kabu.

For all high school students, music is always one of the most important parts of a celebration, so the student council made sure to create a uniquely crafted playlist with all different genres to meet all of Urbana students’ needs.

“We came together as a diverse group and put together songs that we wanted to play. We also did get multiple students’ feedback. Therefore, it’s very diverse,” Moten explained.

Sounds like a night to remember! Tickets will be sold in the commons on the 10th, 11th, and 12th during the 6th period. Make sure to get yours while they last, as it won’t be a night to miss!
