UHS Wins Spirit Contest Against Central HS

On the morning of Friday, September 4, 2009, Urbana High School won the week-long school spirit contest between UHS and Central High School. The object of the contest was to boost school spirit for the upcoming game between UHS’s Varsity football team and the opposing Central Chargers. In order to win the contest, both schools had to get the most votes from their community. People were allowed to vote online via poll at illinoishomepage.net. The celebration was held outside at Tiger Lane from 7:30 a.m. to 8:20 a.m. Several classes as well as the band and the entire football team were there to witness the event. The event was televised by WCIA-3 news reporter Amber Jenne.

However not everything that happened that day was worth celebrating.

While the contest was won, the game was not. Later that night at Centennial Unit 4 field Urbana lost to Central, 50 to 0.  Even though the game wasn’t’t won, we can still take pride in the fact that we won the poll and the school got some publicity. Hopefully this will give us an advantage at next year’s poll- so next football season, be sure to vote for Urbana High School!
