Math Club Competes at ICTM Regionals

Saturday, February 30 was the annual Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics (ICTM)  Regional Math Competition. Urbana High School was a big competitor, with 30 students competing overall.

All of the competing members contend with other schools to earn point which go to the UHS math club as a whole. The points are then totaled up by school, which qualifies schools to further compete.

At this past competition, UHS was successful, coming in third overall. Awards were won by fifteen students, Jordyn Harriger, Fabian Junge, Sebastian Junge, Donghwa Kil, Jeremy Loui, Lucy Lu, Anwen Parrott, Umberto Ravaioli, Nabeel Rizwan, Corby Rosset, Andreas Ruiz-Gehrt, Sophia Ruiz-Gehrt, Fumi Takezawa, Ray Wu and Kang Zheng. Of those fifteen, Jordyn Harriger and Jeremy Loui were high scorers.

Sophomore Umberto Ravaioli, who placed second in his event with Ray Wu, encourages more students to join Math Club. “The more people who do it, the more points we get. The more points we get the more likely we will go to state. The more likely we are to go to state, the more likely you are to get a good resume. The more likely you are to have a good resume, the more likely you are to get into to college. The more likely you are to get into college, the more likely you are to make more money. By the Transitive Property, going to ICTM Regional Math Competition will give you money,” he said.
