ice cream 4

When you are craving ice cream next and are headed through the drive through of McDonald’s to get a chocolate shake, think of these alternatives. I gathered the five best places to get ice cream and frozen yogurt in the Champaign- Urbana area. I have been to all these places and know for sure they are good.

Jarling’s Custard Cup
309 W Kirby Ave
Champaign, IL
(217) 352-2273

Jarling’s, or Custard Cup, is one of the most popular places to go in C-U and is always a favorite. I love their lemon ice cream and the store is really close to Urbana. Our own Echo Reporter Lily Smith works at Jarling’s.

Cozy’s Custard
1511 W. Springfield Ave
Champaign, IL
(217) 355-9020

This place is overlooked often because of Jarling’s, but if you like Jarling’s you are bound to love Cozy’s.  They have pretty much the same items as Jarling’s. The lines are not as long and it is not a crowded as Jarling’s, which is great because you don’t have to wait forever to get your ice cream. “I love the Bears on the Beach, it is gummy bears, Oreos and vanilla ice cream mixed together and tastes really yummy,” said Sophomore Phonesavanh Soutchay.

Cocomero
709 S. Wright Street
Champaign, IL
(217) 328-3888

For about 39 cents an ounce you can get frozen yogurt that comes in many great flavors from chocolate to peach.
After getting your own self serve yogurt you can add your own toppings. Your frozen yogurt is charged by the ounce.
“Cocomero is great because it not ice cream it is frozen yogurt and it is a good change they have lots of different
flavors and topping,” said Sophomore Macey Smart.

Courier Cafe
111 N Race St
Urbana, IL 61801
(217) 328-1811or

Courier is a great restaurant and is located in Urbana and has some of the best shakes in C-U. The shakes are made with real ice cream and come with whipped cream and a cherry.

Sidney Dairy Barn

SidneyDairyBarn.com.

Sidney Dairy barn has great ice cream there chocolate ice ream is so rich and not too expensive. It’s great to know that you are supporting a small town business. “Sidney Barn is the best because it is homemade ice cream that is creamy and delicious,” said Freshmen Nicole Choquette.
