UHS’ FCA Club Holds First Meeting

Urbana High School’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) held its first meeting before school on Wednesday September 3, 2010. Members discussed service projects, tee shirt designs and lesson assignments. The club’s goals extend farther than these activities, however. Club advisors Tammy Bond and David Reif want FCA to be a place for students to share their faith.

“FCA is one of the best parts of my week,” Reif said. “Hearing student who are passionate about their faith and have a passion to change the world is great.”

“At FCA, we learn about the Bible and how to apply it to our lives,” FCA President Kolton Williford said. “I joined because I love Jesus and I want to further the kingdom of God.”

FCA meetings usually consist of members eating breakfast, praying, and participating in a short lesson prepared by different students every week. The club also makes preparations for service activities they are involved in. Plans for this year include trash pick up during Homecoming Week, a Christmas gift drive, and a luncheon for new students at UHS.

“I’m excited to see a group of students take part in service and to care about others more than they care about themselves,” Elise Ellinger said about the upcoming projects.

FCA meets every Wednesday before school, and all students are invited to attend.

“Anyone can come even if they aren’t Christian or an athlete- we’re a really open group and a welcoming fellowship,” Ellinger said.
