For the past four weeks, Urbana High School’s Girls Soccer Team has been practicing everyday after school, through rain and shine, giving their all during each practice, to get ready for the upcoming season.

During their previous soccer season, the girls started off with a perfect record 3-0, but sadly ended their winning streak when they tied against University High School.

“Varsity was pretty good last year, they won many games… I’m just hoping that they still win a lot of games this year, too,” said Sophomore Jesus Olmedo.

Last season, the team’s first game was against Mattoon, the Tigers won 1-0. This season’s first game is also against Mattoon, Tuesday March 29th, at 6:00 p.m.

“I’m pretty excited for our first game! I hope we dominate Mattoon and show them whose boss,” said Freshman Kayla Lard.

Freshman Leah Berti said “It’d be a huge sort of relief to start out this season with a winning streak.”

“I’m thinking the girls are well prepared for this year’s soccer season. Just as everyone else, I hope they win their first game,” said Freshman Macio Zelip.

“I can’t wait to see the girls play this year! It is always a turn out when you see girls play soccer,” said Oldmedo.

Sophomore Joe Carter said, “I hope they win that game against Matoon. I’m sure that would be a great way to start the season!”

Unfortunately, the Urbana ladies lost both games against Mattoon, with a score of 2-1 for Varsity, and 1-0 for Junior Varstiy.

“I’m pretty bummed that we did not win our first game,” said Freshman Ellie England. “I was really looking forward to celebrating our victory. But then again, we still have the whole season ahead of us. We have a whole bunch of games to still win, Mattoon is definitely not going to slow us down.”
