UHS Track Star McKenzie White Graduates

McKenzie White has been one of those people in the Urbana High School halls that has always stood out. Whether it is fall, winter or spring White always has been important to UHS athletics and her friends.
“McKenzie has been a great friend through out my high school days, she has a great smile and I love her personality,” said Senior Carlos Draine. “One day I am going to marry her.”
Through out all four years of White’s career at Urbana she has participated in sports such as, Cross Country, Volleyball, Basketball and most importantly Track.
White participated in many events on the track team, White holds the school record in the 100 meter hurdles and the 300 meter hurdles. Her current records are on the board in the main gym. She also shares the 4×100 meter relay record and the 4×400 meter relay record with several of her current teammates.
In 2008 White made it to state in the 100 and 300 meter hurdles, in 2009 she went for the 4×100, 100 and 300 meter hurdles she placed 9th in the 300 hurdles and 12th in the 100 hurdles. In 2010 she went in the 100 and 300 hurdles, 4×100 and the 4×400. Placing 3rd in the 300 hurdles, 9th in the 100 hurdles, 10th in the 4×100 ,and 8th in the 4×400.
On Friday April 15 at approximately 2:30 pm White signed her letter or commitment to run track for The University of Southern Illinois Carbondale (SIUC). White received a partial scholarship because of her excellent athletic performance while attending UHS.
White name is the topic of choice when the words “girls track” come up. She is expected to perform at an outstanding level when she reaches the Division One level of performance. McKenzie will be playing under the mentorship, and knowledgeable SIU Head Coach Connie Price-Smith.
“We are excited about McKenzie becoming a part of our Saluki Track and Field program and look forward to having her on campus,” said Coach Smith “She will be a great asset to the program.”
White touched many people’s hearts in Urbana schools, and continues to do so. “McKenzie White is arguably one of the best if not the best and most successful female track athlete that UHS has ever had,” said Mr. Hall “Our track program will greatly miss her, but I look forward to her to doing great things at the collegiate level in track and field at Southern Illinois University. I think she has the potential to be a national qualifier or All-American at the collegiate level.”
