This year, Urbana High School is doing the play; “You’re a good man, Charlie Brown.” You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown tells the story of an average day in the life of the famous comic strip child hero, Charlie Brown. Most of the characters are 5-6 years old but teenagers generally play the parts in the show. The audience is introduced to the whole Peanuts gang: Patty, Shroeder, Lucy and Snoopy. All of the characters share their observations, largely negative, of Charlie Brown. As the play progresses, the relationships of the Peanuts characters to one another are further expanded. Lucy is infatuated with Schroeder and takes great pleasure in tormenting Charlie Brown. Linus loves his blanket. Snoopy lives in his rich imagination. Charlie Brown is in love with a mysterious, little redheaded girl whom he can’t seem to win her heart.

Auditions for the play were held early December and the show is coming along pretty good. “We have had two weeks of rehearsal and everything seems to be rolling along just fine. The cast has been really dedicated to learning their parts and working hard at memorizing and getting everything right. The crew has even stepped in to start planning the technical needs for the show,” said the drama director, Tim Broeker.

The cast is excited about this production. It’s been a long time since Urbana High School did this production and it will be fun to watch. It is a nice funny show. “The musical is progressing quite well and it is delightful to be in such a nice show,” said one of the cast members, Senior Noah Gehrmann.

Unlike many other musicals, everyone in this musical has a named role. “I am excited to do this play, it is my first lead role and everyone has a named role. Everyone has already learned their songs and parts and the cast is working really well together,” said one of the cast members, Junior Katie Odom.

This will be a really great show for all audiences. “The fact that the show is about the peanuts comic strip that most people are already familiar with, is enjoyable. Seeing the high school actors play the parts of little kids while giving very mature philosophies and ideas makes the show generally enjoyable for all ages,” said Tim Broeker.
