Prom attire can empty your wallet in the blink of an eye, but this year the Social Justice Committee is easing the pain in every one’s wallet with their prom boutique.

“It’s important that the idea came from students who wanted to be sure everyone who had the desire to come to prom was able to come and maintain their swag,” SJC Co-Chair Ellen Dahlke said.

With outfits and accessories for both men and women, the SJC Prom Boutique can cut one expense out of your prom budget.

“[The SJC Prom Boutique] provides options [for students] who may or may not have other options,” Urbana High School Principal Laura Taylor said.

Items will be on sale the first week of April in the lecture hall during sixth hour lunch, and all items are around ten dollars or less. Items for men and women include shoes, ties, bow ties, hats, purses, jewelry, makeup samples, dresses, pants and vests.

“[The SJC Prom Boutique] is convenient and affordable,” Taylor said.

In previous years, some prom attire items have been available to students from low income families who cannot afford prom. But this year, SJC decided to make a boutique available to every UHS student that provides fashionable items at affordable prices.

The items for the boutique came from members of the community who donate either items or money to SJC, who used the money to go shopping for the boutique.
