There is never a time that Urbana High School doesn’t have an activity going on. Athletic tryouts, seasons and conditioning are constant.

This spring, UHS will offer a wide variety of sports to its students, such as Softball, Baseball, Girls Soccer, Boys Tennis, and Girls and Boys Track and Field.

Although conditioning has started, the official tryouts for Softball are Feb 27 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. and Baseball 5:30 to 7:30, both located in the small gym.

Junior Myles Kelley, a returning baseball player, said, “I’m pretty excited, this will be my first year on varsity. New experience, better competition, better players.”

UHS provides athletics that are competitive, yet build teamwork skills. The baseball players will be traveling to Florida over Spring Break and will have a chance to bond as a team.

Boys Tennis has not been announced, while Track and Field began practices on Jan 16.

Tryouts for Girls Soccer will be held in the Oscar Adams Gym on Feb 27 from 3:30 to 5:30.

Girls Soccer has been selling baked goods and eggrolls during lunch hours in order to buy new jerseys this year.

Anyone interested in trying out for a sport can sign up in the main office and must have a current physical, athletic fee, and participation card on file.

Kelley concludes, “Overall, I’m just excited to get back out there and play.”

The spring sports season will soon be underway!
