The NCAA Tournament started with 64 teams. Some teams didn’t think they were going to make the NCAA Tournament. Each week, there was single-elimination. There was some upsets lirking in the atmosphere. But it didn’t affect the top seeded Kentucky Wildcats & Kansas JayHawks. Each round was difficult for all 64 teams that started it. The numbers didn’t fool them & neither did the coaches. It was going to be a success even though 63 teams failed to get the NCAA Tournament trophy.
The Kentucky Wildcats were 31-1 when the tournament started. They finished 15-1 in the SEC Conference with only one loss. It was a success for that team. The team had mostly all freshmen but they didn’t care. Coach John Calipari coached them to be the best that they can be. They lost to Vanderbilt in the regular season & in the SEC Title Game. That didn’t affect the Wildcats at all. They are unstoppable, but they have only one lost. That is good with a team that is a NCAA calibar team.
The Kansas Jayhawks were 29-6 when the tournament started. They finished 15-2 in the Phillips 66 Big 12 Conference. They made the Tourney with only six losses. The Jayhawks played in Omaha, Nebraska & they won both of their games. The Jayhawks defeated North Carolina, so Kansas could get in the Final Four. It was a very successful season for the Kansas Jayhawks & Coach Bill Self. Kansas is a fighting team. They were down all of the games that they played in the tourney–including the game that they want to win so badly. The game that they wanted to win is the N’TL Title Game versus Kentucky Wildcats. They feel too short to claim the title in New Orleans.
The final two teams that were in the Final Four were first-ranked Kentucky Wildcats vs the second-ranked Kansas Jayhawks. It was a really one-sided affair between these two teams. But Kansas didn’t want them to just blow them out like they did in the first half of the game. The Jayhawks had some fight in them but they couldn’t pull any closer to Kentucky’s score of 67. The final score was Kentucky 67 and Kansas Jayhawks 59. They pulled within eight points & they couldn’t pull any closer to that 67-point mark. Both teams did outstanding to get where they were at in New Orleans.
