The former cellphone powerhouse BlackBerry has officially been dethroned; BlackBerry is being sold for a whopping 4.7 billion dollars to a private Canadian company. Ever since the iPhone was released in 2007, BlackBerry has not been able to keep up. They have received positive reviews for their hardware but the problem has been their software and their inability to satisfy their customers. It is 2013 and the BlackBerry market place does not have popular apps such as Netflix and Instagram.

Librarian Matthew Murray said, “I believe it is a positive thing that they are being bought out and I don’t feel it’s a bad thing that they are staying in Canada; all this is for the best. I knew they were in serious trouble and they weren’t selling their merchandise. For them to stay relevant in the cellphone market and compete with the mega-giants like Samsung they have to improve their software and innovate more frequently. This private group of investors will bring this company back to its feet, and their shareholders are going to receive nine dollars. Let’s just see what the private investors decide to do with the company”.

Junior Sebastian Mora said, “ I really like BlackBerry but they need major improvements. But, I’m happy they are being bought.”
