With the end of high school football comes the beginning to another big sport at Urbana High School, wrestling.
Last season, the team’s record ended with a 6-15 record and there are plans to make more improvement this year.
Coach Charles Trabaris plans to get the team ready and eligible before the first meet on November 26. The wrestlers have some goals for the team this season as well.
UHS Junior, Chanc McQueen, says “I want our team to make it on the wall in the wrestling room. I know we can do it if we all put in work.”
However, improving team scores isn’t the only thing the team has planned this year. Coach Trabaris has some high expectations from his wrestlers as well.
Trabaris says, “I expect a lot from the juniors this year. They need to step up and lead the team.”
He wants each and every one of his wrestlers to take it farther they did in previous years. The boys are ready to do so.
UHS Junior, Steven Gray, says, “I plan on making it to state this year. I’ve done camps, meets, and changed my style from last year. I’m more aggressive and ready to take this all the way.”
It can clearly be seen that the coaches aren’t the only ones with goals for the team this year.
It doesn’t take much to notice the team functions like a family. They help each other out and push each other to do their best and give it their all.
This season has the potential to be a very good one. Each and every one of the wrestlers has their own goals and ways to achieve many great things this season.
The first official meet is away in Westville on November 26. Make the journey to cheer on the Tigers!
