Anderson Silva Suffers Leg Injury in UFC Fight

Former World Champion Anderson Silva recently suffered a massive leg injury. In the news in 2013, many injuries and tragedies impacted athletes and their lives, and people didn’t know what to do when those people got hurt and were injured for a quite awhile.

Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is a sport that you have to be prepared to kick, punch and do other activities or moves that may be illegal in other sports.

On December 28th, Anderson Silva tried to kick Chris Wiedman, who he was fighting and suffered a massive leg injury. Before this injury, he was on the road to possibly another victory in the MMA World. But, it was a short ending to his reign of wins in MMA, after all of that during the fight.

UHS teacher Erin Ludwick said, “Silva was a great fighter, and I hope he heals quickly. I do think this injury will end his career.”

When he gets back, he would probably be 39-years old trying to recover from the kicking injury, similar to Kevin Ware who was injured in the 2013 NCAA Tournament.

But, being in the MMA, your reputation sometimes doesn’t change like that. Silva was a power force fighter!

Not all people follow MMA. Urbana High School Assistant Principal Michael Gourley said he had, “No opinion of MMA, and doesn’t really follow MMA.”

Regardless, news of Silva’s injury continues to make headlines.
