Graduation on the Football Field at UHS

This year at Urbana High School, graduation will be held on the football field. This decision, made by UHS principal Mr. Stark, will be in effect for the next couple of years, and comes after the State Farm Center, where graduation was held before, was closed for renovations.

Throughout the UHS community, students and teachers have expressed opinions on the new graduating location.

High school, for a lot of students, is a highlight of their lives, and can become stressful and dull as the years go by. Four years of repeating a daily schedule of coming to school, staying after school, and doing homework are all awarded on the day of graduation.

On the day of graduation, May 31, 2014, the weather will most likely be hot. Graduating outside with such temperatures will surely make a lot of people uncomfortable.

To add to this, the possibility of rain is also a concern for the day of graduating. If it does rain, graduation will not be as memorable, because the new location would be inside on the Urbana Middle School stage.

Despite these factors the chance to graduate on our schools field will be a memorable opportunity because it is taking place at the home of the Tigers. Having the community along with family and friends support you as you walk across the field, it is sure to give a feeling that can’t be matched.

Graduating on the field will only add to our memorable high school experience, and will also become a new tradition here at Urbana High School.
