On September 19 it was revealed by CNN and TMZ that Sugar Bear (Mike Thompson) and Mama June (June Shannon), two of the stars in the TLC hit show “Honey Boo-Boo” have decided to take a break in their relationship. Even though they never had an official marriage, they had exchanged vows in a commitment ceremony last May.

June and Sugar Bear have been raising their three kids together, Alana Thompson, Jessica Shannon, and Anna Shannon. Each of them have taken part in the TV show. June has said according to TMZ that the kids will be her first priority in the whole ordeal.

In another statement to TMZ June said, “Sugar Bear and I have decided to take some time apart to figure out some things in our relationship. We are taking things day by day but regardless of what happens the girls will always be our number one priority”.

One question that comes up from this breakup is why this is considered world news and deserves an article on CNN.com
“I really enjoy watching the tv show” said Senior Victoria Hilsheimer, “but I don’t think that anything that happens in it should be worthy of national news.”

Even though TLC stands for “The Learning Channel”, Honey Boo-Boo has never been considered as an educational show. It’s claim to fame has actually been the amount of stupidity shown. So why is one redneck family’s story on CNN? It’s because this is the news that Americans want to see. With all of the problems going on with ISIS, people just want to see some more lighthearted news that doesn’t have any deaths attached to it (except for the TV show itself).
