Although students are excited for all the homecoming festivities, there seems to be a bit of controversy surrounding the voting process for court. Many students have expressed displeasure with the voting system and the way the results are handled.

Senior Edith Yao says “I dislike how its the same people every year and that it’s a campaign type of process.”

Staff members around Urbana have not expressed as much opinion on who is on court, but they have given suggestions for how the voting process could be improved.

Business teacher Mr. McAndrew says “Voting should happen during lunchtime and it should only be the senior class who gets to vote and be on court.”

While many people seem to want to see some kind of change, they also enjoy some parts of the process. Most students enjoy nominating friends and voting for them, and those people who are on court enjoy the honor.

Edith Yao also says “I like that everyone gets a chance to nominate and vote for people.”

Homecoming court members will be announced Friday at the UHS Pep Rally. Members of court will be riding in the parade and will also appear at halftime of the homecoming game later that night.
