At this year’s homecoming pep rally, Urbana High School’s mascot was revealed to be senior Jack Perry after he was nominated for homecoming court.

As soon as Athletic Director Stephen Waller announced his name, Perry ripped the tiger head off and soaked in the applause and surprise.

Perry is used to this kind of attention. He placed second at last year’s Big 12 conference and sectionals in diving. He’s also a skater and an actor in this year’s fall musical Twelfth Night.

So how did Perry become the Tiger?

Last year Perry spent practices with the cheer team to show his commitment to the mascot position. And with the help of Athletic Director Stephen Waller, he became the tiger we all know and love.

“I became the mascot cause I noticed the lack of school spirit and wanted to change it for the current and future student body…It seemed like a really fun thing to be a part of. Not a lot of schools have the opportunity to jump around and wear a costume all day,” he laughed.

Perry’s skateboarding and diving experience helped prepare him to become the mascot and do all of the crazy flips and tricks used to hype up our school spirit.

“I think being the mascot plays a big role in uniting the school through student spirit.”

In the past two years, Perry has done just that!
