As the semester wraps up, you may need a new club to join when getting back from winter break. Whether you’re into sports, music, or even engineering, there’s always something for you.

Let’s take a look at 3 of the clubs on our radar for next semester!

Ultimate Frisbee Club:

Ultimate Frisbee is a fun and exciting team sport that is growing all around the country. There are school leagues in cities like Chicago, and it is played at almost all colleges and universities.

The Ultimate Frisbee Club at UHS aims to teach the basic rules of how to play Ultimate Frisbee, along with basics like how to throw and catch the frisbee. All are welcome regardless of experience or skill level.

Sophomore Theodore Nevins is an active member of the Ultimate Frisbee Club who says you can be anyone and join; this club is all about having fun!

“I think it’s a really fun opportunity, and to have fun and also be active. It’s a great community and I, so it’s fun people,” said Nevins. “I think it’s a pretty competitive group, but also very open to newcomers.”

Meetings are currently happening every Thursday after school out near the softball field through the end of the semester. They will also be meeting in the spring, dates and times are TBD.

Engineering Club:

Engineering Club is an engaging and interactive club where members learn and develop their best engineering skills. They learn Robotics, how to 3D model, weld, sculpt, problem solve, and even more!

This semester, they built a raised garden bed for Yankee Ridge’s “Farm to School” program and are currently working on the Illinois Green Schools Project. Anyone is welcome to join the engineering club no matter their skill level.

Freshman Colin Guth is a current member of the engineering club who has improved his engineering expertise this semester through the club.

“I have refined my CAD and woodworking skills,” says Guth. “I joined the Engineering Club because I am interested in Engineering and high school engineering, though I couldn’t take an Engineering class this year.”

If you’re like Guth and didn’t get the chance to join the class this year, you still have a chance to build your ability through the club! They meet on Thursdays from 3:30-4:30 in room 3157, join them!
