On Thursday, December 3, the Urbana High School girls basketball team competed against Mattoon in the Oscar Adams Gymnasium. Although the lady tigers played hard, they lost by just two points with a final score of 34-32.

“The game was okay the first half, but as we got a chance in the second half, we got into the mood and cooperated with each other and caught up,” Dominique Johnson, sophomore, said after the game. Johnson said that if there was anything the team should improve and concentrate more on, it would be executing their plays better.

“We all play differently because we have learned the years before to play as a team,” she said. “We can pick up on plays and drills a lot more quickly.”

When asked about what she liked the best about the sport, Johnson said “The teamwork, playing at the best of my ability and having as much fun as possible while still playing the game.”  Johnson said the team’s main goal for this season is to get better as the season progresses and to win more games.

  1. This was one of the closest games I have seen at Urbana, too bad we could not pull off the win.
