The Urbana High School Varsity Boys’ Basketball team was victorious at its first home game on December 4. The Tigers beat the Mattoon Green Wave 57 points to 43 in a crowded Oscar Adam’s gym.

The Tigers looked strong on the court and played with confidence despite the usual first-game nerves. “We were a little jittery with it being our first home game,” Senior Laquan Grein said, “but our transition offense was good as well as our defense.”

Points were scored by Kyle Clevenger, Taylor Seten, Laquan Grein, Brandon Glass, Deonta Jones, Darrion Brown and Darren Gray. Top moments from the game include a save by Larry Green followed by a three-pointer by Clevenger, Sophomore Glass’s three-pointer and a dunk by Clevenger.

“We sealed the game when Kyle (Clevenger) dunked on the kid (Mattoon’s number 21, Micah Wolfe),” Grein said.

The crowd agreed. Oscar’s Army (the UHS Paw Pack’s new student spirit group) exploded when Clevenger made his dunk. The Army was loud throughout the entire night, though.

Junior Larry Green commented on the Army’s presence during the game. “When they called us out, the whole team went to the student section and got the crowd hyped and jumping,” Green said.

Trevor Richmond, a junior and member of Oscar’s Army, had plenty to say about the student group. “Oscar’s Army gives you the chance to scream and act like an idiot and no one judges you,” he said. “We do a lot of hard prep work like learning the school song.”

The Tiger’s next game is Tuesday, December 8 at Eisenhower High School. The next local game is Friday, December 11 at Urbana Middle School- come help Oscar’s Army pack the stands as the Tigers take on the Champaign Central Chargers.

“We need huge numbers for this Friday’s game, so bring a friend and ten dollars for shirt (optional) and get yourself in,” Richmond said.
