On Wednesday, December 9, Urbana High School was given a Bronze Level Award in The U.S. News & World Report’s annual ranking of the best high schools in the nation. Out of the 759 public high schools in Illinois, only 72 high schools earned recognition from the report.
To evaluate each school The U.S. News & World Report checks on whether that school excels their state’s standard for standardized test scores. Then, in a partnership with School Evaluation Systems, uses a methodology it has developed to judge how well a high school serves their students. Overall, 21,786 schools were evaluated. Of those 21,786, 1,750 were recognized as being above average for their state’s standards.
Principal Laura Taylor commented on the ranking. “This recognition would never have been possible without the incredible dedication of the UHS faculty. I am thankful every day that I work in a building with educators who understand that focusing on student learning is their number one priority. UHS teachers are among the best in the country. They should not only be proud of this accomplishment, but of all they do to support our students,” she said.
