From September 22 through 25 Pygmalion Music Festival will rock Champaign-Urbana for the fifth time. The annual festival is held each September and showcases many acts, from local bands to nationally acclaimed ones, although the majority are of the indie rock persuasion. This year of Montreal, Janelle Monae, Roky Erickson with Okkervil River, Caribou, Ted Leo and the Pharmacists, Cut Chemist, Cap’n Jazz, +/-, Surfer Blood, Plastician, Holy ****, Those Darlins, Fang Island, Cults, Owen, Colour Revolt, David Dondero, Candy Claws, Turbo Fruits and Light Pollution will headline at Pygmalion.

The performances are held throughout the community in a wide variety of venues. The Canopy Club, and 18 and older venue, will be home to the majority of the headliners. Other venues are the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts, The Art Theater, the Independent Media Center, The High Dive (19+), Mike n’ Molly’s (21+), Cowboy Monkey (21+), Exile on Main St., indi go Co-op and Caffe Paradiso.

Main act of Montreal is returning to the festival for the second time, their first performance at Pygmalion was in 2006. Other returning acts include Elsinore (whom have played at all five festivals), Owen, World’s First Flying Machine, Duke of Uke, DJ Belly and Santah (formerly Santa).

“I like how the entire community gets together to celebrate the wide array of bands who choose to come to this small town to perform,” says Junior Zelda Galewsky, who attended headliner Iron & Wine’s concert at the festival last year. “It surprises me that such popular bands actually show up for Pygmalion.”

Although most single tickets for the headlining concerts are sold out, festival passes are available at the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts’ website. Many tickets for the smaller venues are available at the door, as well. For more information, visit the Pygmalion Music Festival’s website at http://2010.pygmalionmusicfestival.com/.
