13 years ago in Pretoria, South Africa an amazing rock/grunge band was formed. That band is Seether. It has gone through a lot of changes since 1999, including a new name and changes in members. The group’s first name was Saron Gas, but it was changed to Seether when they signed with their second record label, Wind-Up Records.

Through the years, Seether has changed members multiple times, but is now set on three men: Shaun Morgan for lead vocals, lead and rhythm guitar, Dale Stewart for bass, back-up vocals, and John Humphrey on drums.

Seether’s sound is unique. Their songs usually start off with a short guitar or drum solo. Nothing too big, but just enough to give the listener a small taste of what each artist is capable of. The mix of Morgan’s raspy voice with the instruments creates the feel for each song.

These boys have toured with many great rock and alternative groups, such as Evanesence. While on tour with them, Seether’s Shaun Morgan and Evanesence’s lead singer, Amy Lee, produced a duet, making Seether known in the United States.

Urbana High School Sophmore Steven Gray said, “The song is really good, but kind of sad.”

Seether’s third album, Karma and Effect, also pushed their debut in the U.S. With the release of this album, the band became known best for their first single, “Remedy.” The song held a high spot on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks for a while.

Other accomplishments the band has made in their time include winning No.1 Active and Heritage Rock artists on the Billboard Charts in 2011. That same year, Seether won Canadian Hot 100 and No.1 Song of the Year on Mediabase for their hit, “Country Song.”

Seether joined Avenged Sevenfold, Three Days Grace, Bullet For My Valentine, and many more bands at the Uproar Festival. They were recently on the Triple Threat Tour and came to East Saint Louis, Illinois on September 28.

Morgan said in a recent interview, “The tour has been great. We’ve been playing some big rooms, with some very good friends of ours so we don’t really have much to complain about.”
