Speed Skating: Speed skating events range in distance from 500 meters to 10000 meters. Speed skating events are held on 400 meter indoor skating rinks. The United States Olympic team is projected to win a few medals including chances at gold with skating stars such as Shani Davis who is a returning Gold Medalist in the 1500 and 1000, and also University High School graduate Jonathan Kuck who is competing in the 5000 and 1000 meter events.

Cross country Skiing: Cross country skiing includes several different events and distances such as sprints of 1000 meters, or endurance races up to 31 miles in length. An athlete to watch on the U.S team are Kikkan Randall who has been on the podium of many large events, and even a world championship win in the sprint race.

Bobsleigh: An event competed with two, or four man teams, on a track 1300 meters long. Bobsleds powered by gravity and its crew have the capability of reaching speeds over 100 miles per hour. This year in Sochi, the U.S. olympic four man team is looking for another gold medal to accompany the one the earned in Vancouver in 2010.
