No need to fear, Major League Baseball is finally here!

And just in the nick of time, I might add. For baseball fans who have been wallowing in a sea of post-World Series depression, basketball, and football, the arrival of 2014 Spring Training is the perfect remedy.

“There are a lot of trades that have been made, and a lot of big names have been passed around,” said Freshman Naomi Maehr. “Spring training is when you see all of the touch-ups and refinements made this winter become effective. I want to be able to look at my phone and see that my favorite player hit a homerun again.”

As for the “big names” that have been moved and traded around, influential players such as Prince Fielder, David Freese and Ian Kinsler all changed teams.

This years’ spring training began as early as February 6 for the Arizona Diamondbacks, and as late as February 16 as far as pitchers and catchers beginning goes. In fact, within only two days of the last teams officially starting warm-ups bleacherreport.com released what they believe to be the rundown and suspected success’ of teams; the “MLB Power Rankings: Where Teams Stand at Start of Spring Training Games”. The 2013 World Series runner-up St. Louis Cardinals scored first place in the preseason polls, followed by the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Detroit Tigers, and the Washington Nationals, with the 2013 World Series Champion Boston Red Sox landing in fifth.

“(I think) the LA Dodgers (will win the 2014 World Series), they have so much talent and just a ridiculously good bullpen,” said Junior Jacob Richmond.

The Dodgers and the Diamondbacks are actually taking part in an unusual event this year. The two clubs will play the first two games of the 2014 MLB season in Sydney, Australia on March 22 and 23. The rest of the MLB teams will officially start their seasons on March 31, with that being the official opening day.
