Softball season is right around the corner and plenty of girls are excited.

In the 2013 season, the varsity girls did great on bringing in victories. Brad Lovett and Bill Harmon coached the Urbana Varsity team. Kelly Rockwell coached the junior varsity team. The girls JV team struggled through most of their season, leaving them with a mediocre record. There was talk that the JV team was going to be coached by someone new, and that rumor is definitely true.

The new coach for Urbana High School’s JV softball team will be Vicki Politzer. Politzer is a PE teacher for Urbana Middle School and has tons of experience playing softball. She has played both fast pitch and slow pitch and is ready to start coaching.
Kristen Campbell, sophomore said, “I can’t wait for softball season to start this year. We are getting a new coach so hopefully we can get more accomplished this year.”

Coach Lovett and Coach Harmon will still coach the Varsity team for the 2014 season and hopefully they will enjoy having Coach Politzer around.

Softball is a great sport and requires tons of practice and participation. Even though most girls know Politzer from her job as a PE teacher, hopefully the girls warm up to Coach Politzer and welcome her with open arms. The season will begin soon and we will see what’s going to happen. Lets see what the team has in store for the 2014 season.

Makayla Dulaney, freshman said, “Coach Politzer is really nice. She helped coach my summer team last year and she did a really great job with pushing us and supporting us.”

Softball tryouts start March 3rd. Hope to see you there
