UHS Prom 2014: A Visit to Old Hollywood

Prom is often one of the most anticipated events of many high school students’ young lives. Every year at Urbana, about 250 students dress up, take pictures, go out to dinner and most importantly-enjoy themselves on one of the most memorable nights of their young lives.

Junior Victoria Hilsheimer said, “The whole night was just so much fun. I took pictures and went out to eat and stayed out late with my friends.

At Urbana, Prom is very different from Homecoming because of two different reasons: Prom was held at the beautiful Stone Creek Banquet Hall this year, rather than the high school gym and it is only available to upperclassmen (unless a sophomore or freshman is going with one of these upperclassmen). This exclusivity is what gives Prom its sort of “magical” vibes.

Junior Katie Carroll said, “One of the best parts about Prom was that it was held in such a nice place, rather than the gym. It was a nice change of pace.”

This year Prom’s theme was “Old Hollywood” and the decorations included, but were not limited to: old time movie posters, dimmed lights, and the photographers.

A group of photographers had two sets of photos that could be taken at Prom. There were the professional pictures that the students could pay for and they had a more fun and free photo booth with props.

They major key event that happened was the crowning of this year’s Prom King and Queen: Tashawn Wilson and Taylor Lovett.

All in all, speaking on behalf of someone that went to Prom, the whole night was one of the best experiences of my life and I encourage everyone that can go, to go.
