While the focus of this semester’s first Homeroom Congress became the controversy of the Dean replacements, other important topics, related to student voice, were discussed.

Upstander Advocacy Council:

Laura Koritz, psychology teacher, informed representatives about the Upstander Advocacy Council, a group that meets every other Thursday during all lunch periods in room 1152.

Proposals of Unity:

Assistant principal Erin Ludwick spoke about three ways the school as a whole could come together after recent tragedies to make a statement.

  1. An International Day of Happiness, students will fill out pieces of paper to be hung in the commons stating, “I will spread happiness by ________.”
  2. What’s your 17, a national pledge to do 17 kind things for other people.
  3. UHS Link Together, to take place on March 13, students and staff will voluntarily link arms during homeroom to make a stand against school violence.

Mental Health

Created by Ellie D’Andria, an extended homeroom in late April will be utilized to have student led discussions with English classes to talk about the importance of Mental Health at UHS. If interested in being an upperclassman facilitator, contact Ellie D’Andria.

If you’re looking for a way to get involved, take these into consideration. Stay tuned to The Echo for an overview of the rest of the Homeroom Congress discussion.
