According to Prep Scholar, a 3.0 GPA is the nationwide average for high school students across the United States. But does that matter when colleges place so much importance on the SAT?

Senior Bathel Gilbert thinks students should have to take the SAT because he thinks that it could bring out the best of someone’s knowledge.

“I do think people with a high GPA should [still] have to take a standardized test because it’s possible to get a good grade in class just by copying others’ work, so I think testing will show students’ true knowledge,” he said.

Junior Sheldon Turner agrees because schools on a collegiate level want to see how much you know.

“The SAT is to see what you know and what colleges want to see [is] how well you do in school,” he said.

Senior Bathel Gilbert feels like it’s quite a bit of work preparing for the SAT.

“I do find some questions on the SAT to be challenging because it’s hard to study on everything that’s going to be on the SAT so some material I might not know,” he said.

GPA also shows how well you do in school and how well you study.

Taking the SAT is part of the high school experience but is it a better reflection of you than your gpa? Colleges across the country continue to debate on this topic.
