The school seems to be springing new policies at students left and right. The latest?

A new rule was announced over the intercom third period, October 13, stating that all freshmen and sophomores must eat inside and cannot go outside for lunch.

This rule caused an immediate uproar among students, with many saying that the policy is not functional because the cafeteria simply cannot hold that many students.

Turns out, this is not true!

Although it is functional in terms of safety because the carrying capacity is 420 people (and a rough estimate puts the number of chairs in there anywhere between 227 and 261), it isn’t always comfortable.

“It’s too loud and smells bad because of the food and the people. The lunchroom is way too crowded,” said junior Ivan Acuna.

There is, however, a good reason behind this rule. Assistant Principal Julie Blixen says that it’s because the weather is getting colder and supervision issues of people sneaking off.

To make eating in the Commons a more positive experience, they are also trying to get games for kids to play during lunch.

In addition to the hallways, new lunchroom procedures are a way they are “really trying to crack down on safety and security.”
