January 20th, was the day freshman at Urbana High School attended the lecture hall for the pre-registration class. Pre-Registration is when freshman get to see the options for classes through out their high school years. A lot of students benefited from this activity, and many are thankful for counselors that presented the classes.

“Pre-registration helped me find classes, such as Chorus,” said Freshman Jeremiah Beasly.

Pre-Registration is also a good way to plan the classes that are required by the school. Students can see the required years and classes that colleges look for. Colleges look for four years in Math, English, and Science, even though UHS does not require that to graduate, it is a good way to show your dedication to learning even more!
“Registration has helped many students with finding class that will benefit them in the future, and I am hoping it helps me,” said Freshman Darian Gingold.

There are some new classes that were added for the upcoming school year. Social Justice is one of them; this class will develop student understandings of systems of power and individual agency. Students will also explore racism, class status, sexism, heterosexism, ageism, religious discrimination, and the intersection of these oppressions.

Another featured new class is Sports and Entertainment Marketing. This is an opportunity to learn and develop skills related to the booming sports and entertainment industry. This class is one semester and is worth two credits. This class will focus on the basic principles of marketing and advertising. Also focusing on merchandising, publicity, public relations, facility design, sponsorships, ticketing and learn about career opportunities in the field. “I really can not wait until next year for this class!” said Freshmen Cole Hoffman.

The freshmen also received a course book, which listed all the classes available for their school year. Students, who have not registered for classes or want to make a change to their schedule for next year, should see their counselor in the Guidance Office. But come quick! Classes are filling up fast!
