Remember when you were little and there was that one movie you never got sick of?

It was the movie you always talked about and imagined yourself in. For example, in The Lion King you imagined going on wild adventures with Simba, exploring the seemingly never ending Pride Lands, or sneaking off and investigating the mysteries of the Out Lands with your friends. Taking all the characters to heart as if you’ve known them your entire life. While others pictured themselves in a more feminine role, imagining they were in a huge castle, where just about every object you saw was living, friendly and would cater to your every wish.

Movies like Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King made a huge impact on many lives.
The plot and the music made these films come to life. Even today they are still well known and have the power to make the oldest of us reflect to being a child again.

But are things different now? Those who grew up watching these movies have all matured. These movies once captured our imaginations and inspired us, but is it still the same?

Alicia Martin, a senior, was a huge Wizard of Oz fan as a child and is still a fan today. “It was magical, it brought me into a magical world,” she said. Like many other kids, she watched that movie over and over again and immersed herself into the world of the movie, even going as far as dressing up as a character from the movie for Halloween.

Eric Jamerson, also a senior, talked about what movies he loved as a child, his response was the children’s action movie Small Soldiers. He remarked at how the movie excited him and how its action made him wish he were in their world.

Evan Brown, a freshman, said his favorite movie of all time was Toy Story. The reason why that movie was so memorable to him was because he was fascinated at the fact that the toys were alive. Brown’s feelings toward the movie haven’t changed very much and still enjoys in to this day. He was asked if old children’s films differ from those made today. “Yeah I think movies are different now. I don’t think it’s not necessarily a bad thing but I feel that the audience has changed. I feel that movies today appeal to the adult audience as well as the young now.”

Junior Christian Brutlag agreed. “I’d say they’re different because people aren’t as uptight anymore so these new films put a little bit of adult humor in them. I think this change is great!”

To them, even as things change with children’s films the effect they have won’t change. This amount of admiration for a movie as a child and the way it still brings us back to our childhood now is relatable to just about every kid. There is at least one movie from your childhood that will always be the same to you throughout life and that is unforgettable. These movies have a lasting effect on many now and probably always will.
