Urbana High School’s Orchestra hosted their last orchestra concert on May 13, 2011. It was a wonderful two-hour concert that was probably the last for seniors.
During the concert there were many performances starting first with Symphonic Orchestra who played “Makado”, “Purple Haze”, and “Phantom of the Opera”.
The second was a student composition by Sophomore Abel Asbenshade. Jenny Hill, Glynn Davis, Katie Heinricher, and Andreas Ruiz-Gehrt also, were a quartet performing Tchaikovsky’s “Adante Cantabile’ in dedication of Tamara Gingold their conductor and teacher. The last performance was the Chamber Orchestra performing “Russian Easter Overture”, “Intermezzo Sinfonico”, and “Dvorak Finale”.
Seniors Jennifer Hill, Glynn Davis, Katie Heinricher, Margaret Comp-Blair, Daniel Ro, and Nick Johnson, all attend UHS and received an award for being members of the UHS orchestra class.

When asked if orchestra was fun and if they were continuing orchestra, Hill said, “yes, the places we went to made it worth it. I do plan on continuing.”
Jennifer Hill will be attending University of Chicago studying some sort of science; she is not sure what yet. Glynn Davis will be going to the University of Illinois and majoring in Mathematics. Katie Heinricher will be going to Illinois State University for early childhood development, Daniel Ro will be going to U of I to study photography. Margaret Camp-Blair will go to Parkland, and Nick Johnson will be going to ISU and study computer science.
Heinricher says she will miss “My quartet, my section, and Gingold.”
Davis has been in orchestra for four years, he says he has learned “How to rely on other people and to be a leader.”
On May 29, the seniors will be graduating and orchestra will be losing those six great members.
