For teenagers nowadays, it has become very common to spend a few hours after school or on the weekends earning a few bucks while at the same time focusing on school work and other extra-curricular activities. Although this can be very time consuming and taxing on your management skills, when the paycheck comes in, there’s no denying that all those tiring hours of work have turn out to be worth it all. However, when considering all your other activities, it can be a pain to fit your work schedule together with for example, essay due dates, group projects, rehearsals, and team practices. In order to show the balance between these facts, below is a compiled list of the pros and cons of being a working student.
PROS:
1. This might come off as a little obvious to some people at first glance, but many overlook the skills they are gaining when they are working students. Having a part-time job while in school gives students insight into what it’s like in the work environment and also what it means to earn a dollar.
2. Having a part-time job could also be an eye-opener to some people: money is not gained very easily, and in the future, you’re going to have to work very hard for what you want.
3. Having a job also comes with convenient cash. With a paying job, you can easily pull out some cash when you have immediate needs like buying school lunches, and maybe even a movie out with some pals.
4.Work breeds independence. Going shopping won’t mean asking mom and dad for some cash anymore, helping your folks a little bit with the spending.
5. You will be a master of multi-tasking even before you start your very own professional career in the future. By then, it would not be as challenging as it would be without any experience.
CONS:
1. If you have a job, this automatically means that you will have less time to do your other activities and also study. This might cause you to have bad grades.
2. Overworked teens tend to sleep and exercise less and spend less time with their families.
3. Getting a job might cause an overwhelming load of stress for students.
Overall, although it is a trend nowadays to have a job while in school, there’s no doubt that with that, comes its own consequences. Of course, working at such an age is going to have its own advantages and disadvantages. Chances are great they are going to be filled with enjoyment and accomplishment, but would also be spiced up with doses of anxiety.

  1. I disagree with one of your cons, even though you have a job doesn’t mean your are going to have bad grades. I know plenty of students that have jobs and their grades are on point. saying that kids grades drop once they have a job may be true for some most students balance their time really well. it’s all about the hours you work and how often you work when it comes to that.
