The Urbana High School Girls Basketball team is back in action and ready for the new season.

Junior Alarae Jackson sees some major differences from last year. “I feel like for this season the biggest difference is the fact that we will no longer be a young team, everybody should be more mentally and physically developed than their previous years.”

A message from Lauryn Cross; “Don’t take anything for granted, leave it all out on the floor and get your school paid for.”

Even though the basketball team only lost one senior, Lauryn Cross had a big impact on the team. “The difference from last year is we lost one of the greatest point guards, so it means everyone will have to step up,”says senior Amya Balher.

To make up for the loss, athletes have major plans to improve this year. “I will get into everybody’s heads, the biggest concern we had from last year was coming together, I want to bring the desire out of all my teammates,” says Jackson.

The game requires a team to play together, where everybody equally holds their own weight. “I’m doing everything different from last year, scoring more and being less passive,” says Balher.

There are many things that can make the season a long and successful one. Junior Raevyn Russell says, “I’d improve myself to help the team by being more productive, take more wins, and just work as a team.”

Even though the team is looking at their past accomplishments, they’re also looking at the future. “I think it will be fun working with the freshmen. I am going to cherish the opportunity to teach them new things because I remember being in their shoes,” says Jackson.

With all of these changes, it’s bound to be a good season for the Tigers. Good luck to the Girls Basketball team! Go Tigers!

Tryouts for 2018-2019 season will be held in the big gym on Monday, October 29th from 1:00 pm-4:40 pm and on Tuesday, October 30th from 3:30 pm-6:30 pm.
