Wrestling season, a four-month grind that anyone who survives can walk out of with their head held high, begins Monday, November 5th.

Urbana Tigers Wrestling, coached Charles Trabaris, has high hopes for the season with three varsity seniors: two-time state champion Luke Luffman at Heavyweight, Jeremy Macharro at 195 pounds, and Michael Monreal Jr. at 220 pounds, as well as some juniors looking to have a good season this year.

In the past, the Tigers have had a very small varsity lineup, but this year looks to have a bigger numbers.

Junior Elijah Rogers says, “I want to get more people on the team and build a good relationship with them.”

Returning wrestlers are optimistic about the season. Junior Will Brown feels “pretty prepared for this season and feel it will go smoothly.” Patrick Johnson is even more confident: “I believe I’m going to go undefeated this season,” says sophomore Patrick Jordan.

The team is also looking for a lot more success team-wise and hoping to take home some more team trophies at tournaments this season. The team took third place at the Urbana Invite last season and the JV took third as a team at the Mattoon invite.

The Tigers open the season versus the Hoopeston Cornjerkers and Westville Tigers at home on November 20th, so come support your Wrestling Tigers!
