A rumor has spread around all social media platforms including Facebook and Instagram that there is a possibility of adding a 13th and 14th grade to high school. Many people are shocked at the thought that this could become a reality.

Sara Goldrick-Rab, a professor at Temple University explains where this idea is coming from.

“It’s hard to do almost any job now without a 13th or 14th year of schooling.”

Student don’t see it that way. Junior at Urbana High School Roxanne Essafa states, “Nobody wants to stay in this place longer than expected to.”

Junior Icecess Williams agrees.“ I don’t think it’s necessary to add two more years of high school. That’s way too much.”

Still, New York Times magazine writes that “Making 14th grade the new 12th grade might be essential if the United States is to maintain its status as an economic powerhouse.”

Some teachers agree with this decision because they feel like it would be beneficial for high school students and they would gain more knowledge in the real world and would be more prepared.

This could become basically two free years of college. Some people believe that this is a false rumor, but more and more are starting to believe that this could be true because of how far it has spread.

This has not yet been confirmed nor denied so we may never know what the come out will be until further notice.
